Previously, Quarry Hill Conservancy sat adjacent to a single-story building and a small parking lot. The conservancy is currently visible throughout downtown Middleton and the surrounding area.

The single-story structure now gone, the proximity of the lot to the adjacent hill, which supports the land of Quarry Hill Conservancy, is more apparent.

Viewed from west to east, the remaining concrete slab shows how the footprint left behind from Vern’s Autobody ends at the bottom of the hill that supports the conservancy.

The cement barrier, marking a previous one-car garage entrance, and the excavator add perspective to the size of the lot upon which a developer has proposed a five-story building.

A five-story building on this site would require cutting into the hill at the back of the property, not only threatening the conservancy, but also making any view of what remained nonexistent.

Quarry Hill Conservancy is the last-remaining natural urban canopy in downtown Middleton. Removing the rock and root structure that support it would irrevocably damage this habitat.

Damaging the land beneath the conservancy would result in the loss of the existing urban canopy and make this the new view of Quarry Hill Conservancy.
